It was a beautiful morning, as we headed out to the near-shore reefs for another day of sheephead fishing. The ocean was a little bumpy on the ride out but soon laid down as the tide changed. Accompanied by Brian, John, Austin, and Bryce, we were ready for some action. We moved around a little during the day and finally wound up with 29 fish that weighed around 75lbs. We used fiddlers for bait to nab the crooks. Having two youngsters on board was great and i think they actually out-fished the adults. Bryce and Austin ended up catching the biggest fish of the day also that was around 6 lbs. Probably beginners luck !!!! Capt. David Reddick III

The weather for the weekend was beautiful, with noaa calling for 1 ft. or less. After sitting out Saturday for my youngest sons first birthday, we decided to run offshore and get some sheepshead early Sunday morning. Armed with about 300 fiddlers, we headed east. Beautiful seas and no wind was certainly a welcomed change from the relentless cold weather this year. This morning, I had the pleasure of fishing with some of my buddies, Mitch Pennington, Keith Gladden and Capt. JonBoy. We had a great time and ended up with about 100lbs of fish with the largest being about 9 lbs. Definitely ready for the weather to straighten out so we can get on some more. Gonna include a pic of the fish and Ridge with his 1st birthday hat on.

The striper bite has slowed due to nasty weather conditions. The weather has been difficult with one sunny, cold, windy, day followed by a rainy, dreary, overcast one. These conditions will dissipate this weekend and hopefully i will get some good reports. The striper bite was mediocre the last few weeks with catches of 4 or 5 being good. These fish ranged from 2 lbs to 30 lbs, with the bigger fish being caught on big plugs……The sheepshead bit should be on offshore but nobody has been able to get out that I’ve heard. A few reports of fish being caught inshore but no big fish. Usually late feb. and march sheepies are on fire however with the coooold water temps we’ve had this year this may be somewhat later. We will have some warmer days ahead and if this steadies off for a couple days the trout will turn on again. Capt. David 2/11/10

The last few weeks we have had some great weather and the cobia action has been very good. May 29, 2009 we caught 3 nice fish but none have been as large as the 92lb state record fish caught in South Carolina on May 26, 2009. Action slowed over the following weekend as 9 zillion boats were on the water after hearing of the monster cobia caught off Hilton Head. Tuesday June 2, 2009 we caught 9 fish to 45lbs. As water starting to warm 76.5 degrees fish are pushing off farther. 4 more nice fish on wednesday June 3,2009 and 3 more shots at other good fish made for a good week. After some extremely hot days the water temp skyrocketed to about 84 dgrees on Monday June 15 although we did manage 5 more nice cobia to 40 lbs. 21 fish in the last 4 trips makes for happy customers.

The trip to Savanna and Tybee Island proved to be the perfect opportunity to enjoy some Georgia fishing and as it turned out, I think I also had the perfect guide.

I appreciate your willingness to share your expertise and I especially enjoyed your friendly and helpful personality. We missed a few, but we caught a lot more and that’s what fishing is all about. If I have the opportunity to fish in your neck of the woods again I will be sure to give you a call.

What a great fishing trip you guys provided for me and my father!

This day will be the most rememberable time I spent with my father and I would like to thank Capt. Dave and his crew.

What a great fishing trip you guys provided for me and my father!

We could tell immediately that Capt. Dave knew his stuff when we stepped on his boat, navigating easily through the choppy waters going out to the coast. After catching the day’s fresh bait supply, it was non-stop action as he was busy rigging for the next catch while calmly instructing us about the art of angling these coastal fish. And Capt. Dave knew that with the turning tide something exciting would happen – and it did!

We hooked an incredible tarpon, 90# class by his estimate. He released the anchor and the chase was on. That tarpon was part torpedo as he circled and headed straight for another fisherman’s boat 1000+ feet away. In most cases this is where the battle would end, but not with this engagement. 1st mate Jake handed the rod to the other boat while Capt. Dave maneuvered his boat around their boat and anchor line to the other side. Jake grabbed the rod back and we resumed the pursuit. We repeatedly got the tarpon next to the boat for his photo opportunities which are sure to be spectacular.

This day will be the most rememberable time I spent with my father and I would like to thank Capt. Dave and his crew.

Upon returning home, I was reading the Savannah Morning Newspaper and there was fishing article in the Outdoor section of the July 3 edition. It made reference that tarpons were sighted but no fishing reports were available.

I believe a retraction is in order.

Sincerely,
Don Phelps, Jr. – Tonkawa, Ok.
